A microchip implant is a small glass cylinder about the size of a grain of rice that contains a radio transmitter containing the animal’s unique identification number which cannot be altered. They are passive in nature, requiring no power supply. Microchips are not a GPS. Our microchips are constructed of non-toxic components hermetically sealed in biocompatible glass. They have been designed to have an operating life exceeding 75 years. Extensive testing of more than 20 years, in a wide variety of animals, has shown no adverse side effects to the health of the animal.

The microchip is implanted with a specially designed, pre-sterilized needle, causing no more discomfort than a routine injection. All implants are performed in a specific site location, usually subcutaneously, which assures virtually no pain. The physical ability and performance of the animal is not impeded. There is no scarring or disfigurement. Most animals are unaware that they have received an injection. Animals of any age can be injected with a microchip. Puppies and kittens can be identified during their initial vaccine series.

The unique microchip number along with the pet’s and owner’s information is entered into our secure PETtrac database which is one of the largest national databases in Canada, holding nearly one million registered animals.

Shelters, Veterinarians, City Animal Services and several other facilities throughout North America have scanners that can read the microchip number.

As an added benefit, our lost pet report service adds an extra layer of assistance in locating your pet. In the unfortunate event your pet is lost, you simply notify us by phone or go online and enter the last known location of the pet along with some descriptive information and we immediately send out a notice to shelters, veterinarian clinics and humane societies in the area to alert them of the lost pet in case someone comes in with the pet and to alert everyone to be on the lookout.
